Putting employment law into practice

The e-learning module, online guides and booklets below offer practical assistance to employers in understanding employment legislation, and applying it fairly and correctly.

  • Acas Learning OnLine - Working Time and Holidays examines key issues including how many hours employees are expected to work, entitlements to lunch and rest breaks, and holidays. The module is a way for employers to reinforce their understanding and includes a test at the end. You will need to go to Acas Learning OnLine to register or login.
  • pdf icon Advice leaflet - Holidays and holiday pay [266kb] gives a summary of holiday entitlements and sets out the right to annual leave, when a leave year starts, how and when workers can take leave and how to calculate holiday pay. There is also a question and answer section covering matters such as public holidays, part-time workers, and holiday and accrual systems.
  • The National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage A-Z advice page takes employers through key points including new rates which came into effect from 1 October 2014.
  • Acas help for small firms - Managing staff absence: A step-by-step guide takes employers through stages to follow in managing absence from work.
